A fine and rare English 20 carat gold pair cased half quarter repeating repoussé verge pocket watch with à toc feature, circa 1740. Frosted gilt full plate movement with square baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three armed brass balance with flat balance spring, pierced and engraved cock, silver regulation dial, repeating on a bell in the back of the case, à toc lever protruding from the bezel. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer minute track, outermost five minute Arabic numerals and original gilt pierced hands. enamelRepoussé outer case decorated with a scene of a courting couple in a classical landscape, another lady seated in the foreground within a rococo cartouche, pierced border decorated with scrolls, bezel decorated to match, the inner case polished, pierced and engraved with flowers and scrolls. Dial and movement signed.
