A fine and rare French 18 carat four coloured gold open faced quarter repeating verge pocket watch, circa 1775. Hinged gilt-brass full plate movement with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three arm-steel balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass rococo pierced and engraved cock with polished steel end-piece, repeating on a bell activated by depressing the pendant. Matte silver dial with red champlevé Roman numerals and outer blue enamel Arabic minute ring, rococo engraved centre and paste-set hands. Louis XVI case, the back with a four-colour gold scene chased with a courting couple in a garden amongst classical ruins with outer pierced rococo decoration. Movement signed.
