A fine French 20 carat gold, enamel and diamond-set open faced verge pocket watch, circa 1775. Hinged gilt-brass full plate movement with turned cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, micrometric potence adjustment, plain brass three-armed balance, flat balance spring, continental cock, silver regulation disc. White enamel dial with Roman hours intersected by rose-cut diamonds, outer minute track and five-minute Arabic numerals, winding aperture at 2 o’clock and rose-cut diamond-set hands. The case back is set with a polychrome enamel portrait of a young lady with a flower basket and wearing a bonnet, the border and bezel are set with rose-cut diamonds in silver mounts. Dial and movement signed.
