Silver two train cylinder pocket watch by Savarin & Fils

A fine and rare Swiss silver open faced two train independent dead centre seconds cylinder pocket watch, circa 1800. Frosted gilt movement, two train with fusee and chain for the going train, the barrel with detachable bridge, standing barrel for the seconds train, steel cylinder escapement, six leaf flirt attached to the escape wheel pinion for driving the dead centre seconds, three armed brass balance, flat balance spring, index regulator with scale on the edge of the cock. Fixed cuvette. Convex white enamel dial with Breguet numerals, outer star minute and seconds divisions, engraved gilt dial plate with lever between 2 and 3 o’clock for start and stop of the centre seconds, original pierced gold hour and minute hands, blued steel centre seconds hand. Polished case, reeded band. Dial and movement signed.

Independent dead centre seconds. In 1776, in Geneva, Moise Pouzait invented the independent dead seconds mechanism in which the movement has two trains. One is conventional and the second has a sweep seconds hand that can be stopped without stopping the main train.
