Silver and tortoiseshell quarter repeater by Johan Kiel

A fine, large German silver and tortoiseshell pair cased quarter repeating verge pocket watch, circa 1800. Frosted gilt full plate movement, engraved with foliage, foliate engraved dial plate, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three armed brass balance, pierced and engraved continental balance cock, polished steel end plate, silver regulation dial, repeating on a bell in the back of the case activated by depressing the pendant. White enamel dial with bold Roman numerals, outer minute track, inner signature and gilt leaf decoration, original pierced brass hands. Silver and brass outer case overlaid with tortoiseshell and with pique decoration, the inner case with beaded and inclined bezel, pierced and engraved border on the back. Dial and movement signed.
