Gold repeating watch with early use of three hammers

A fine and rare Swiss 18 carat gold open faced minute repeating cylinder pocket watch with early use of three hammers, circa 1860. Frosted gilt movement, 8 jewels, standing barrel, cylinder escapement, plain brass 3/4 balance, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator, repeating via three hammers on two gongs activated by depressing the pendant. Gold hinged cuvette. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer minute track and outermost Arabic five minute numerals and original blued steel spade hands. Case engine turned on the back, reeded band. Case and movement numbered.

Minute repeating watches with more than two hammers are very rare before about 1900. This piece is not a carillion like the later three hammer watches but uses a hammer to strike the hours, then the hour hammer and a quarter hammer strike the quarters and finally another hammer strikes the minutes only.
