A fine and large Swiss gilt, enamel and pearl set open faced centre seconds duplex pocket watch made for the Chinese market, circa 1870. Gilt movement, entirely engraved with foliate scrolls, Chinese caliber, free standing barrel, duplex escapement, three armed balance with blued steel wings, flat balance spring, index regulator. Gilt rimmed glazed cuvette fixed to the movement ring. White enamel with large narrow Roman numerals, outer minute and seconds divisions, original blued steel ovoid hands. Empire case, spring loaded back finely painted on enamel with a flower bouquet of roses, peonies and tulips, opaque green ground, pearl set bezels, pendant and bow.
