By repute, the present watch was presented by Queen Victoria to Jules Dufau who had invented a system of improvements for regulating or controlling railway and lighthouse signalling which was of vital to the safe running of the transport and maritime industries. Dufau’s impressive letters patent document No. 2225 of 1857 is included with this watch and still retains the wax impression of the great seal of Queen Victoria and the original morocco presentation box embossed with the Royal arms.
