An attractive Swiss gilt, enamel and pearl set open faced key-wound duplex pocket watch with centre seconds made for the Chinese market, circa 1860. Chased and engraved key-wound duplex movement, hinged dust cover. White enamel dial with Roman hours, outer minute divisions, Arabic quarter-hour numerals and centre seconds. A large case with split pearl-set bezels, pendant and bow, the reverse with a finely painted polychrome enamel portrait of a lady against translucent cream enamel over an engine-turned ground. Movement signed, cuvette, movement and case numbered.
