Unsigned gold lever pocket watch by Matile
–
An extremely heavy Swiss duplex cabriolet splendour pocket watch, circa 1850. This watch has an 18K gold cabriolet case that can be worn as a Lépine or hunting case watch. The watch has an elaborately engraved design on both lids, with one lid featuring a galloping horse and an alpine landscape and the other lid featuring a pavilion, a lake, and an alpine landscape. Both lids have matching numbers that are identical to the movement number. The dome of the watch is signed Matile Locle.
–
The watch has a very fine duplex movement that is key-wound, and its enamel dial is well-preserved and has Roman radial hours, an outer minutes track, and a subsidiary dial for the seconds. The watch is in working order and is in very good condition.

The Lépine or open-face pocket watch construction has the second hand fitted in the axis of the winding stem. This is different from the hunter calibre, where the second hand is fitted on an axis perpendicular to the stem.
