A very unusual, especially large repeater Humbert La Chaux-De-Fonds, circa 1800. A silver, engine turned, dome inscribed “Repetition Cylinder 18 Rubis”, signed J.E. Humbert Prince Chaux De Fonds, main plate inscribed Finie Par L.E.Benoit, extremely high quality cylinder movement refined by Benoit with rubies and screwed gold chatons, repeating hours and quarters, enamel dial in excellent condition, very fine Breguet steel hands, striking and with very good sound, movement needs service. The watch is in very beautiful condition and is by the Benoit “refined” movement a unique collector’s watch!

In the 18th century, the Benoit family was one of the most respected watchmaker families, especially Pierre Benoit, who worked for Breguet and his son Achille Hubert Benoit (1804-1895), who was the director of the Royal watch factory and head of the watchmaking school in Cluses.
