Gilt metal and rock crystal verge pendant watch by Claude Du Cleron

A very fine and rare French oval one-handed gilt metal and rock crystal verge pendant watch, circa 1600. This piece has a gilt full plate movement with a verge escapement. The engraved dial features a silver chapter ring with Roman numerals, half-hour dots, a minute track, and a single steel hand. The case is made of gilt metal and has a hinged cover made of rock crystal over the dial and decorations. The watchmaker Claude Du Cleron was active in France from 1593 to 1637 and died in 1637. The movement is signed Du/Cleron à Lyon.
