An English fine 22 carat gold very early five minute repeating verge watch, circa 1710, fire gilt full plate, verge escapement, decoratively pierced and engraved balance cock , three-arm brass balance, fusee and chain, round round pillars, repeating on a bell to the inside case back, signed H. Massy, London, gilt dust cover. Silent strike lever beneath the bezel at 7 o’clock.
White enamel dial, Roman numerals, outer Arabic minute ring, blued steel poker and beetle hands.
Gold repoussé case depicting a man and a woman with scrolling foliage. In top condition sharp repoussé image, with shuttered winding aperture. In excellent condition

Henry Massy (sometimes spelt Massey) was the son of the French protestant watchmaker Nicholas Massey. Henry was made a Brother in the Clockmakers’ Company in April 1692. Britten records that Henry Massy was at Charles St., near St James’s Square in 1707.
