Gold miniature watch made for Henry Seymour

A French miniature 18 carat gold quarter repeating pocket watch with the crest of the Dukes of Somerset, circa 1840. The case with a ribbed band and a gold cuvette. The bezels and back have engraved initials and on the front an engraved crest. White enamel dial with Roman numerals and gold Breguet hands. Gilt brass movement, four jewels, lever escapement, monometallic balance, counterpoised lever and parachute, flat balance spring. Repeating on gongs with slide in the band. Signed on the cuvette.

Bearing the crest of Henry Danby Seymour (1820-1877), this is an example of an extremely rare and well-made quarter repeater in a miniature size, made in a style similar to Brequet.
