A Swiss 18 carat yellow gold half hunting cased minute repeating keyless pocket watch made by Sandoz in Le Locle, circa 1885. The case, made by JN in the Neuchâtel mountains, is engine turned on both sides, the cover with a glazed round aperture and radial black champlevé enamel Roman chapter, the back features a decoratively engraved escutcheon with the applied monogram JL.

Minute repeating by two hammers on two steel gongs, activated by a slide located on the case band at 6 o’clock. White enamel dial with radial Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and gilded metal double spade hands. A nickel plated ¾ plate movement, going barrel, gold screwed chatons, straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensated balance with gold poising screws and blued steel hairspring with terminal curve, and polished steel index regulator, the repeater work on the main plate under the dial. Signature on the cuvette by the retailer and on the movement a coat of arms of the maker with the motto of the Sandoz family, Sine Dolo, which means without deceit in English.
