A very rare French 18 carat rose gold and enamel open faced quarter repeating à toc gentleman’s pocket watch with calendar made by Jean Antoine Lépine in Paris, circa 1790. Prime quality frosted fire gilt movement with a cylinder escapement, one hammer, a going barrel, three arm ring balance and train for the going and striking mechanism. Pusher for repetition via the pendant. Polished case, a hinged back decorated with translucent blue enamel over a guilloché ground, the finely painted enamel depicts a lady dancing in a classical scene. White enamel dial with Arabic hour numerals, outer dot minute divisions, an outermost chapter ring for the date, and gold poker & beetle hands. Dial signed Lépine Invenit et Fecit, cuvette signed Lépine Hger du Roy à Paris.
