Unsigned gold and silver open faced watch
–
A French gold and silver open faced montre à tact lever pocket watch, circa 1820. The watch features an unsigned frosted gilded movement with a lever escapement, a bimetallic compensation balance with large pink gold timing screws, a steel overcoil hairspring, pink gold banking screws, and a connection for a tact mechanism to centre. The silver engine turned dial presents an eccentric time display with Roman numerals, an outer minute ring, subsidiary seconds at 12 o’clock, blued steel moon hands, and an elongated sector for regulation with a female setting square. The gold case has a bayonet fitted engine turned back, secured by a screw beneath the bezel beside the pendant, and a shuttered aperture with a female winding square. The case back is mounted with a tact hand with touch pins along the edge, a silver band, and a case maker’s mark, possibly an FH incuse.
