Gold and enamel open faced verge attributed to Jean-Pierre Gregson

A French 18 Carat gold and enamel open faced verge pocket watch, circa 1820. Full plate movement, key wound, chain and fusee, three arm brass balance.
White enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, outer minutes track with Arabic fifteen minute numerals and gold arrow hands. The case back with a very fine miniature enamel painting depicting Hector bidding farewell to Andromache on translucent cobalt blue enamel engine turned background, the band and bezel decorated with translucent paillon borders, the pendant numbered and punch marked BP.

The watch is in perfect original condition and has never been restored or damaged in any way a rare and high value piece of jewellery.

Jean-Pierre Gregson originally came from England. In 1776, he was appointed watchmaker to the king in Paris. He was one of the first watchmakers of his time to use the Lépine calibre. In 1787 Gregson founded a watch company in Braille.
