Gold cylinder watch with matching long chain

A fine French 18K gold, painted-on enamel and pearl-set lady’s pendant watch, circa 1840. With an 18K gold two-strand long chain, gold and enamel slides, key and terminal en suite. A polished bezel, reeded band, the back with a painted-on enamel portrait of Cupid riding a dragonfly on a black ground, half-pearl and gold rosette border, scalloped edge, engraved outer border and a hinged gold cuvette. The chain with two gold slides with painted-on enamel cherubs heads. White enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and blued steel Breguet hands. A frosted gilt movement, bridge calibre, eight jewels, cylinder escapement, three-arm gilt balance with blued steel fl at balance spring. Cuvette and movement signed.
