Gold repoussé chronograph watch

A fine and rare French massive 18 carat yellow gold open faced minute repeating pocket watch with chronograph and instantaneous 60 minute register made by Chaudé in Paris, circa 1880. The frosted gilt straight line lever escapement is fitted with 37 jewels, a cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring with outer terminal curve and an index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a slide on the band. White enamel dial with Roman hours, an outer minute track with fifth of a second divisions and Arabic five minute numerals, a 60 minute register at 12 o’clock, subsidiary seconds at 6 and gold Louis XV hands. The consular case with an inscribed cuvette, a chased scene on the back depicting ancient warriors storming a palace, rocaille borders, and the band, front bezel and bow are decorated to match. The case is punched with the chaser’s mark, an armoured knight, and the cuvette is signed by the watchmaker.
