Silver and enamel centre second watch

A very fine Swiss silver and enamel open faced centre second pocket watch with duplex escapement made for the Chinese market, circa 1860. The spring-loaded case back is finely painted on enamel depicting a noble young man against a blue guilloché background, the bezels with a repeated champlevé enamel pattern of foliage, the pendant and bow decorated to match. Silver cuvette hinged to the movement ring.

White enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, outer minute and seconds divisions with fifteen-minute Arabic numerals, black spade hands. A gilt-brass movement, fully engraved Chinese calibre, free-standing barrel, jewelled single wheel duplex escapement, five-arm steel balance with flat rim, flat steel balance spring, and an index regulator. Movement signed and numbered.
