French gold repeater made for the Turkish market Circa 1840

Gold and enamel repeater with jump hours

A very fine and large French, 18 carat gold and painted on enamel quarter repeater, circa 1840. Jump hour pocket watch with ruby cylinder escapement. Made for the Islamic market. The back is finely painted with a floral love trophy en grisaille, white champlevé flowers and gold foliage on broad bezels against a black enamel ground, band, pendant and bow with repeated patterns of black and white enamel. Hinged gold cuvette. Jump hour aperture at the top with Islamic numerals, silver eccentric engine turned dial, minute chapter, subsidiary sunk seconds and blued steel Breguet hand. Frosted gilt movement, nine jewels, ruby cylinder escapement, gilt three arm balance, flat balance spring with temperature compensation curb, parachute suspension, repeating on gongs by pull and twist piston in the pendant.
