Rock crystal lever watch with associated chatelaine

A very fine Swiss/French rock crystal, platinum, 18 carat gold, enamel and diamond set open faced keyless pocket watch with corresponding chatelaine made by Cartier in Paris and the European Watch and Clock Co. in Le Sentier, circa 1925. This watch has a damascened nickel movement with lever escapement, 19 jewels, a bimetallic compensation balance and is signed Cartier and European Watch and Clock Co. Inc. The silver, engine turned dial is signed Cartier, and features an outer minute track, inner satin finished chapter ring with Arabic five minute numerals and blued steel hands. The rock crystal case boasts a chapter ring displaying gold Roman hour numerals interspersed with flowerhead half hour markers against a cream coloured enamel ground, along with a platinum diamond set band. The associated later chatelaine has three strands set with onyx squares, pearls and two diamond and onyx set tie bars.

The movement is running smoothly, with some tarnishing and a few light scratches. The dial is in good overall condition, showing only a few minor spots. The case is also in good overall condition.

The European Watch and Clock Co. was established in the 1920s as a joint venture between Cartier and Edmund Jaeger of Jaeger-LeCoultre in Le Sentier, Switzerland.
