Rose gold attractive quarter repeating musical pocket watch
–
A highly attractive quarter repeating French gentleman’s pocket watch with musical movement, circa 1820.
An 18-carat rose gold, polished case with a case maker’s punch mark FLB. A full plate movement, keywind, chain/fusee, two hammers / two gongs, applied rack strike with polished steel levers, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance, fine florally engraved barrel with pinned disc for music. And a gold dial which is exquisitely engraved with a radial pattern of diamond-shaped white enamel cartouches that seem to be dancing to a happy tune. In the centre is a painted polychrome enamel medallion: a shepherd playing the flute on the banks of a lake, with farm buildings and mountains in the background.
