–
A very fine French/Swiss gold and polychrome painted-on gold pendant watch, circa 1758-1765.
This timepiece features a gilt brass and steel full plate movement with a chain and fusee mechanism. It has a three-arm brass balance, a verge escapement, and a pierced and engraved balance bridge with a silver regulation disk. The enamel dial is adorned with a gold engraved star in the centre, Roman radial hours, an outer minutes track with Arabic five-minute numerals, and silver hands set with diamond chips. The outer case back is embellished with a polychrome enamel pastoral scene painted on gold. The inner case is gold and bears an unidentified maker’s mark consisting of the letters ic over b below a coronet (incuse) on the interior. The pendant features an eagle’s head, which is a French guarantee mark for gold that was in use between January 1, 1847, and July 1, 1919.
