An unusual pair-cased verge pocket watch with very fine enamel paintings, circa 1740. Two cases: gilt outer case with on the back side a polychrome enamel scene depicting a river landscape, enamel bezel with rural landscapes and large lateral hinge; florally engraved gilt inner case with on the centre an engraved monogram surmounted by a crown and case maker’s punch mark IW. Enamel dial with radial Roman hours, sunk centre with gilt design and Fleur de Lys gold hands. Full plate movement, keywind, applied floral decorations, fire gilt, signed, chain/fusee, baluster movement pillars, three-arm steel balance, fine florally engraved, pierced balance cock with mascaron. Within the case is a watch paper with a tiny handwritten English watch poem.
