–
An extremely rare hunting cased pocket watch with five minute repeater made for Tiffany & Co in New York, U.S.A by Patek, Philippe & Co in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1890. The numbered case of this watch, which was crafted from 18 carat gold, has monograms on both sides and the gift dedication Samuel Slater, from his father, December 25th 1890, on the inside of the back lid. The white enamel dial has black Arabic hours, an outer minute track with red Arabic five minute numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and blued steel hands. The glazed movement has a lever escapement with Geneva striping decoration, wolf’s toothing and a five minute repeater.
The case, dial and movement are signed.

The five minute repeater, an uncommon complication, was primarily produced by Patek Philippe for the American market. Nearly all examples were crafted in Geneva as open faced watches and delivered to Tiffany & Co. Full hunter case versions of the caliber presented here are exceptionally rare.
