Gold verge watch with hinged protecting glazed cover

A very fine and rare Swiss, quarter repeating, 18 carat gold and painted on enamel pocket watch with a very unusual protecting hinged glazed cover, circa 1790. A frosted gilt, full plate movement, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance with flat balance spring, pierced and engraved balance cock with polished steel coqueret, silver regulation disc with blued steel indicator, the back cover decorated with a finely painted on enamel scene of a lady in a garden.
White enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, outer dot minute divisions and Arabic fifteen-minute numerals. Gold Breguet hands. Repeating on a bell activated by depressing the pendant. Dial and movement signed. Front bezel opened by depressing a small button in the band at 3 o’clock.
