A fine Swiss 18K gold, enamel and rose-cut diamond-set lady’s pendant watch, circa 1860. With an 18K gold three-strand long chain with two hardstone-set slides. The back cover is overlaid with black enamel with a central gold bow set with a rose-cut diamond, outer engraved repeat pattern border and hinged gold cuvette. White enamel dial with narrow radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and blued steel fancy hands. A matte gilt, bar calibre movement, eight jewels, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance, blued steel flat balance spring, and an index regulator.

The movement of this watch is the rare barillet-type with pinned cylinder, a miniature version of the type of movements found in full-size musical boxes. Most makers during the early 19th century used the sur-plateau type movement with a flat pinned rotating disc as opposed to a cylinder. The cylinder type is more robust and gives a more resonant sound, but requires a thicker case to house it.
