A Swiss 20 carat gold, painted on enamel and pearl set quarter repeating pocket watch with a glazed gilt metal outer protecting case, circa 1790. A Louis XVI case with a split pearl set bezel, the enamel back panel painted with a courting couple beneath a canopy, the inscription Gage d’Amitié, painted over a blue ground. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, outer dot minute divisions, Arabic fifteen minute numerals and gold pierced interlaced hands. Hinged gilt brass, full plate movement with conical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass continental cock pierced and engraved with the inscription D. & Co., polished steel end piece, repeating on a bell in the back of the case activated by depressing the pendant. Dial and movement signed.
