A fine and rare Swiss, miniature, 18K gold huntingcased pendant watch with front-mounted balance wheel and unusual escapement by Roulet à Genève, circa 1800. White enamel, small, eccentric dial with Breguet numerals, outer minute track, balance wheel mounted below with a two-footed cock and faceted red endstone, foliate engraved gold dial mask. Blued steel Cathedrale hands.
Gilt, full-plate movement, cylindrical pillars with chased capitals, modified cylinder type escapement with flat brass escape-wheel, three-arm steel balance, flat balance spring. Movement signed.

The escapement of the present watch is similar to the traditional cylinder escapement in that it has a curved, hollowed-out balance staff. However, the escape wheel has flat teeth rather than raised teeth and is reminiscent of Paul Garnier’s later invention the chaffcutter escapement.
