Gold, enamel, and pearl-set open faced watch
–
A beautifully crafted Swiss cylinder watch made of fine gold, enamel, and pearl, designed specifically for the Chinese market, circa 1800. The watch features an intricately engraved, gilded movement with scrolling foliage, a cylinder escapement, a polished three-arm steel balance, and a bridgework adorned with contrasting blued steel pierced foliate decoration. The dial features white enamel with Roman numerals, blued steel hands with lozenge-shaped tips, and a subsidiary second hand. The case is exquisitely crafted with gold and adorned with a polychrome enamel-painted bouquet of flowers set against a mid-blue translucent enamel ground. The light blue opaque enamel case sides feature gold scrolling foliage, accented with translucent stylized red enamel leaves. Additionally, the split-pearl-set bezels and bow, along with the pendant further enhanced with opaque light blue and black enamel bands, add to the intricate beauty of the design.

The dial has only a few faint scratches, and is in good overall condition. The case also looks to be in good overall condition, with vibrant colouring and some minor light scratches on the back. The decoration on the pendant, band, and enamel on the back also seem to be in good condition. Additionally, the pearls are well-matched. However, the movement is not running.
