Gold and enamel pocket watch by Humbert-Brolliet
–
A Swiss gold and polychrome painted enamel hunting cased jump hour lever watch, circa 1840. The watch features a frosted gilded bar movement, signed Humbert-Brolliet, à Genève, with a lever escapement and bimetallic compensation balance. It has a polychrome enamel painted dial depicting a lady in an interior with a lute, an aperture for jumping hours at 12, and an outer white minute ring. The gold case includes covers adorned with restored polychrome enamel painted panels: the front displays two gentlemen and a lady before the Rialto Bridge in Venice, while the back features the same lady and one of the gentlemen in an Eastern interior, each enclosed by chased and engraved borders of scrolling foliage. The band is chased with flowers and foliage, while the gold cuvette is decoratively engine turned, centred with a polished asymmetrical plaque bordered with scrolling flowers and foliage, and engraved with movement details, signed Humbert-Brolliet, à Genève.

The movement is running smoothly, with the winding and hands functioning well. The hours currently jump at around 15 minutes past each hour, indicating that the hand would benefit from being reset. The dial appears to be in good overall condition, although one screw is missing from the left side. Both enamel painted panels of the case have been restored in soft enamel, and the gold decoration shows light scuffs.

Humbert-Brolliet is cited by O. Patrizzi in the Dictionnaire des Horlogers Genevois as being active from approximately 1825 to 1860.
