Lord Dudley Stuart (1803 – 1854) was the youngest son of John Stuart, 1st Marquess of Bute and Frances Coutts. A Member of Parliament for the Whigs and subsequently the Liberals, he was a passionate advocate of Polish independence.
The Patek & Cie company was founded by Antoni Patek and Frantisek Czapek, two Polish immigrants, in 1839. Lord Stuart perhaps came by the watch through work assisting the Polish people.
