Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming the year of manufacture in 1884, and sale in 1889 with the case back engraving ‘M.F. 1889’
The M.F. initials engraved on the case back stand for Marshall Field (1834-1906), an American entrepreneur and philanthropist who founded Marshall Field and Company. Field took pride in offering exceptional customer service at all of his department stores. His “the customer is always right” attitude radically differed from the “caveat emptor” atmosphere rife in the retail business at the time. His notable philanthropic donations include providing essential funding for the Field Museum of Natural history and donating land for the founding of the University of Chicago.
