Rare gold and enamel musical automaton watch
–
A Swiss gold, enamel pearl set pocket watch with automaton scene, The Forge of Love, and music, circa 1800-1815. Attribute to Henry Capt or Piguet & Capt. This pocket watch with automata and music has an animated scene triggered upon request (activated by the button at five o’clock), four functions and a musical train with a melody on a pinned drum with seven polished steel vibrating blades mounted in one stack on the main plate.
The dial has a scene depicting two cherubs busily working in a forge; one is forging weapons for Venus while the other sharps the arrows and an eccentric gold dial with Breguet numerals. The 18 Carat yellow gold case is round shaped with enamel pearl set and royal blue flinqué enamel (translucent enamel over guilloché engine turned). And it has a key winding, gilded brass movement with a going barrel, cylinder escapement, monometallic balance, and blued steel flat hairspring.
