Hunting cased cylinder watch by Agassiz
–
A Swiss gold hunting cased cylinder watch featuring polychrome enamel painted scenes of New York City Hall, circa 1850. The frosted gilded movement features a cylinder escapement and a plain three arm balance. It has a white enamel dial adorned with Roman numerals, an outer minute ring, and subsidiary seconds. The gold case boasts covers embellished with polychrome enamel painted scenes of New York City Hall, with a park in the foreground. These scenes are framed within gold asymmetrical borders, surrounded by pale blue opaque enamel enhanced with scrolling flowers and foliage. The case includes a milled band and a gilt metal cuvette with apertures for winding and handsetting, signed At. Agassiz, Geneva, and bears a case number.

The movement is fully wound; when a slight impulse is applied, the movement begins to run but only lasts approximately one minute. The dial features two large, crossing hairline cracks on the right hand side. The minute hand is likely a replacement. The glass is loose. The case covers have been repaired with soft enamel and are heavily crazed throughout. There are chips and losses to the pale blue enamel borders, along with scuffs and scratches on the gold.
