Gold and enamel erotic automaton watch by Isaac Daniel Piguet

An extremely fine, rare and large Swiss 18K gold and painted-on enamel musical watch, The Lesson, with concealed erotic automaton scene, activated with the music on demand by pressing the pendant, circa 1800. Gilt brass full plate movement, calibre 22,5, cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain for the going train, verge escapement, plain three-arm brass balance, the automatons movement driven by a pinned barrel playing on eight blued steel tuned teeth, six-wheel train, the extension of the arbour of the second wheel carries the automatons. Enamel dial with Roman radial hours, outer minutes track, and original hands. Fixed 18K gold and finely painted enamel cuvette with an automaton scene of a gentleman and a boy with a lady in a tent. Movement ring scratched on outside Isaac Del Piguet, a Genève.

Isaac Daniel Piguet
Born 1775 in Le Chenit, Isaac Daniel Piguet married Jeanne Françoise Capt around 1795 and, around 1800, settled in Geneva with his family. Piguet was associated with his brother-in-law Henry Daniel Capt from 1802 to 1811 and Philippe Samuel Meylan from 1811 to 1828. Piguet and his son David Auguste established the company Piguet père & fils at no. 69 rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Piguet died in Geneva on January 20, 1841, at 66.
