Gold lever pocket watch by Vaucher Frères
–
A gold Swiss quarter repeating wandering hour watch, circa 1800. This watch is equipped with a gilded full plate, lever escapement, decoratively pierced and foliate engraved balance bridge, silver regulation plate, and repeating on coiled gongs. The dial features decorative engravings of a maiden carrying a basket of flowers in a wooded landscape, with an aperture for a white enamel sector calibrated with minutes. The hours are indicated by a gold pointer mounted with white enamel roundels carrying Arabic numerals. The watch also includes a gold case with an engine-turned back, a milled band, and a repeating locking slide to the left of the plunge pendant. It is marked with the case maker’s mark IF within a lozenge-shaped cartouche and is numbered 1816. The gilt metal cuvette has an aperture for winding and is signed Vaucher Frères and numbered 11816.

The enamel dial sector is catching on the underside of the front bezel and has not been opened. The handset is at the dial centre and has not been tested. The case has some rubbing on the edge of the engine-turned decoration, and there are small indentations on both the back and the band. The movement is running, but it is repeating very sluggishly and is barely operational at present.
