A Swiss very fine, rare gold, enamel, diamond and split pearl set open faced verge pocket watch with a matching chatelaine and original fitted presentation box, circa 1790.
Two cases: the protective case is gilded copper, glazed on one side, gold and enamel inner case, engraved band, split pearl set bezels, the back with a finely painted on enamel figure of the goddess Ceres holding a cornucopia in a classical landscape against an engine turned and translucent cobalt blue enamelled ground, lozenge shaped border outlined in white and translucent blue enamel, gold surround with fine white champlevé enamel birds, foliage and cornucopia decorated with diamond set translucent blue and red enamel flowers, case maker’s mark JAB.
Chatelaine: three strand links, the outer two decorated with blue and white champlevé enamel flowers, the links in the center with engraved gold flowerheads, two navette shaped gold medallions ornamented with fine white champlevé enamel flowers, the larger panel with a putto scene, framed by translucent blue enamel borders and half pearls, two pearl and gold wire tassels and a watch key.
White enamel dial with Arabic numerals and pierced gold hands. Gilt key wind full plate movement with chain and fusee, solid circular movement pillars, florally engraved three arm brass balance and pierced balance cock.

This watch and chatelaine have survived in extremely good condition thanks to the survival of the outer protective case for the watch and the fitted case.
