–
An unusual and very large early cylinder watch with tide display, made by the Frères Veigneur in Genève, Switzerland, circa 1780. The numbered open faced case of this watch was crafted from silver and has the master’s punch TC. The unusual dial features a painting, an hours and minutes dial at 12 o’clock, a large seconds dial at 4 o’clock, a tide level indicator at 8 o’clock and gold hands. The movement has a cylinder escapement.
The dial and movement are signed.

Astronomical pocket watches with a tide indicator are extremely unusual. At the time of making this watch, it was a challenge to be able to determine the water level based on the moon and show this on the dial.
