Silver sundial watch with compass
–
A very rare sundial pocket watch with compass, probably made in Switzerland by Rousseau, circa 1780. The open faced case, crafted from silver, has a blue enamelled reverse with painted gold stars and both bezels are set with stones (one stone missing). The glazed face shows a central white enamel sundial, surrounded by stone setting, and a compass underneath.

Rousseau
Rousseau invented this type of sundial pocket watch with a compass. Almost all known examples have plain metal cases. The present piece, with an enamelled case and stone setting, is an extremely rare version.
