Gold open faced duplex watch

A very fine, 18K gold and painted on enamel centre-seconds pocket watch, circa 1860. Courting Doves by Vaucher Fleurier. Made for the Chinese market. Case back finely painted on enamel with courting doves among flowers against a translucent red guilloché enamel ground, the bezels, pendant, and bow in black, red and pink champlevé enamel. Glazed cuvette hinged to the movement ring.

White enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, outer minute-seconds divisions with fifteen minute-seconds Arabic numerals. Blued steel spoon hands. Polished steel movement, Chinese calibre with steel wheels and standing barrel, ruby cylinder escapement, plain five-arm steel balance, blued steel balance spring, index regulator. Dial and movement signed.
