A very interesting and very fine 18 carat gold pocket watch chronometer with chain fusee and very rare winding mechanism, made in Switzerland, circa 1860. The numbered open faced case was crafted from 18 Carat gold, has a water drop shape case, an engine turned decoration on the back, the maker’s punch A.C. and a reeded bezel. The white enamel dial has black Roman hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at six o’clock with black Arabic numerals and blued steel hands. The extravagant chronometer movement has a very rare winding mechanism, a chain fusee, a pivoted detent escapement, a solid gold escape wheel, screwed gold chatons and a helical hairspring.
The cuvette is inscribed “Chronometre”.
