Rose gold and enamel verge with automaton by Chevalier & Cochet

A very fine and very rare Swiss 18 Carat rose gold and enamel double faced automaton pocket watch, circa 1800. La Chasse Carousel. Hinged movement, frosted gilt full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement heavy brass balance with flat balance spring, double-footed solid cock. White enamel dial, eccentric chapter with Arabic numerals and outer minute divisions set in the lower part, the top with regulator sector, winding aperture at 4 o’clock and original pierced gold shield hands. Automaton: set on the back, within an aperture of a very fine gold plate decorated in champlevé with flower vases, gold trees, a dove, and a Souvenir on a polished gold ground, a charming cavalcade of gold figures appearing in the aperture, a stag hunt in progress, the whole against a painted on ivory landscape. Polishes case, concave bezels, glazed on both sides. Dial signed.

Chevalier (or Chevallier) & Cochet. Watch and clockmakers from the late 18th and early 19th century made very fine watches for the French and Spanish markets, specializing in repeating watches and automaton watches with gold cases, decorated with enamel, pearls and precious and semi precious stones.
