Pocket watch for the Ottoman market
–
An extremely rare gold and enamel pocket watch for the Ottoman market with quarter repeater, made in France circa 1820. The open faced case of this pocket watch is made of 18 Carat gold, has a magnifying glass painting on the back, depiction of flowers and fruits on a green background, surrounded by a white enamel line and the entire edge of the case is beautifully engine turned. The Ottoman enamel dial has Breguet steel hands and the movement has a very fine and rare movement after Breguet with a cylinder escapement, temperature compensation and early shock protection and an unusual rare striking mechanism with only one hammer that chimes hours and quarters, triggered via the special repeater button in the pendant, which you pull out, twist by 90° and then press the repetition triggers.
Dust cover signed and case and movement have matching numbers.

Even though the dome of this rare watch is signed ‘Breguet’, this signature was probably only intended to promote sales. There is no evidence that this watch is actually related to Breguet, even though the watch was made in the style of Breguet watches.
