Gold Lépine pocket watch
–
A rare hour and quarter repeating Lépine pocket watch with an extract from the archives made by Breguet in Paris, France, circa 1820. The open faced case of this watch, which was crafted from 18 carat gold, is numbered, engine turned, has a polished pendant and bow, bears the gold punch from Paris 1819 and was made by the maker Jean Louis Joly. The numbered cuvette is inscribed Breguet Horger de la Marine Royale. The white enamel dial has Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track and gold hands. The movement has an exquisite ruby cylinder escapement and repeats the hours and quarter hours. Dial and cuvette are signed.

The extract from the archives confirms the originality of the watch and the date of sale in 1820 to Le Comte de Sommariva. It also states that the silvered dial was replaced in one of Breguet’s workshops by an original Breguet enamel dial from the period.
