Gold, enamel pocket watch by Les Frères Autran
–
A French gold, polychrome enamel painted and diamond set verge pocket watch, circa 1775. The watch features a gilded full plate movement, signed Les FrS Autran à Paris, no. 1974, with verge escapement, fusee and chain, baluster pillars, flat steel balance, and a decoratively pierced and engraved balance bridge complete with a polished steel endpiece and silver regulation plate. The white enamel dial displays Roman numerals, an outer Arabic minute ring, an aperture for winding, and paste set hands. It boasts a gold case with a diamond set bezel, while the back showcases a polychrome enamel painted scene featuring three figures, a diamond set thumb piece, and the case maker’s mark, PB C, beneath a crown.

The movement is running, the hands are moving smoothly, and the dial is in good condition. The case has some chips and repairs to the blue enamel border. The central scene is hard enamel, with some scratches and a small chip on the top right hand edge. The case catch is not securing the cover, meaning the front is slightly ajar.
