A very fine and rare Swiss 18 Carat gold and enamel double faced cylinder pocket watch with an automaton scene, La Forge de Cupidon, circa 1800.
Gilt brass full plate movement, cylindrical pillars, going barrel, cylinder escapement, plain brass three arm balance beneath the dial, flat balance spring, repeating on two bells situated between the plates activated by depressing the pendant, milled regulation wheel in the dial plate.
Polished bezels, pendant and bow, a glazed case back, the painted on enamel scene depicts a Swiss landscape, the chased varicoloured gold automata comprising two Martin-Martine type Jacquemarts in 18th century costumes appearing to strike the hours and the quarter hours on two bells above, two cherubs between forging the weapons of Venus, a grassy foreground with a sleeping dog, the automata driven by the repeating work. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, an outer minute track with quarter hour numerals and pierced gold hands.
