A Swiss 18 carat gold hunting cased five minute repeating chronograph watch, circa 1884. Jeweled nickel lever movement, repeating on steel gongs, signed and numbered gold cuvette. White enamel dial, dauphine numerals, subsidiary seconds, fine gold hands and outer ring calibrated for chronograph. Case with engraved monogram to the cover and insignia to the back. Case, dial and movement signed. With an Extract from the Archives confirming the sale in 1884.

The case of the present watch is engraved with a Masonic crest with a Latin rendering of the Greek phrase ‘In Hoc Signo Vinces’ inscribed around the Passion Cross. This motto loosely translates to ‘by this sign thou shalt conquer’.
